Monica Herrera was born and raised in Mexico and she has been fortunate to live in North America, Europe and Asia. This exposure to other cultures gave her the opportunity to experience firsthand the beauty and refinement found in different societies and customs around the world. It has also made her realize that no matter where you go, no matter what language you speak, as long as you have good manners and an open mind to understand and respect other cultures and their difference in etiquette, you will have a higher chance to succeed and get the most out of that experience.
As a teenager, her family sent her to a Manners and Etiquette program while attending Middle School. This experience made her feel more confident while growing up. It gave her the tools to handle all kinds of situations.
As a mother of 4, she realized she wanted to pass this knowledge to her children so they could thrive and become the better version of themselves during their formative years. She can't help but notice that because of modern technology, in today’s world, children lack abilities such as maintaining eye contact and effective listening and communication skills. They seem to not have the confidence that comes from mastering social skills.
That is when she decided to start Proper Way Academy. As parents we believe teaching manners is an integral part of parenting, and no matter how hard we try, children will always listen better having the influence of another voice and are more receptive to guidance from a friend or teacher than from a parent.
She searched for the best school to get certified to become an Etiquette Consultant and got her certification from the prestigious American School of Protocol.
She is a proud Bentonville resident where she lives with her husband and 4 children. When she is not enjoying her free time with her family, you will find her cooking, walking or hiking with her dog or looking after her garden.
She has a Bachelors degree in Hospitality Industry from the renowned ESDAI from the top-rated Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City, preparing her for a professional, ethical and socially responsible performance. ESDAI is considered #1 in Gastronomy in Mexico by the Paul Bocuse Institute. She also attended the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of Houston to broaden her experience.
